Birtingu útgáfufélag EHF. is the media provider of HÚS OG HÍBYLI, it was founded and started operating in the autumn of 2006. The company publishes the magazines Gestgjafann, Hús og híbýli and Vikuna. Their manager director is Sigríður Dagný Sigurbjörnsdóttir, the same who bought it and owns the company since 2017.
HÚS OG HÍBYLI is a coffee-table publication as it is a printed publication with pictures, designed for entertainment purposes, it has a hardcover that open to possibilities to keep on any table for show.
The magazine I enjoy reading over and over again has a hard cover but soft pages inside are rich in grey and black tones. The content is distributed in a minimalist style but its pictures are maximalist. The magazine HÚS OG HÍBYLI highlights the Icelandic middle- to upper-class household and feminine styles for those who enjoy cultural trends, design and cosiness.
This magazine is targeting day to day people in Iceland who are always looking for inspirations to improve their home atmosphere, The interviewees are a mix of people who are designers, design lovers and who happened to have great interior houses most of them are part of social circles and are open to sharing with society private spaces, the same which reflect a trendy lifestyle.
This privileged group have beautiful interior houses made by architects and inspire day to day consumers to adjust their spaces into these luxurious but accessible look. When it comes to the incomes streams from this magazine, besides the annual subscription and the one-time purchasing at libraries and grocery stores, it advertises all sort of products like furniture, decor accessories and interior provider companies they go from Ikea by being the most accessible products in the market to expensive ones as axis.
Birtingur goals are to offer enjoyable entertainment for most age groups by publishing quality magazines, where everyone finds something to their liking. The magazine publishes the most current and contemporary home furniture, interiors and accessories for the home.
I have to say that after getting this magazine for 2 years this magazine is more than just something to have on your coffee table, it is something you will use all year round for reference, inspiration, entertainment and because it is reaching their goal at least that is my opinion.
